Located at the entrance to Oku-Nikko, this lake is one of the highest in Japan, at 1,269m above sea level, and was formed by the eruption of Mt. Nantai. You can enjoy the natural beauty of the four seasons and lake activities.
Lake Chuzenji is a lake created by the lava flow of Mt. Nantai, with a circumference of about 10 km and a maximum depth of 30 m. There are tourist spots on the lake surface, such as Lake Chuzenji Onsen and Ryuzu Falls, and you can enjoy sightseeing by boat or canoe.

The most distinctive feature of Lake Chuzenji is its transparency. The water is up to 25 m clear, so you can clearly see the sand and rocks on the bottom of the lake.

Lake Chuzenji is also attractive because you can enjoy the scenery of each season. In spring, you can enjoy the fresh green leaves, and in summer, the lake surface reflects the beautiful mountains like a mirror. In autumn, the lake is colored with autumn leaves, and in winter, you can see the lake surface freeze over.

The view from Senjugahama Beach at Lake Chuzenji is a popular photo spot. It is especially famous for the autumn leaves in autumn.

If you want to see the whole of Lake Chuzenji from a little distance, we recommend the "Hangetsuyama Observatory."

There are also pleasure boats and swan boats.

[Hidden gem]
On the shores of Lake Chuzenji, there are the Former Italian Embassy Villa Memorial Park and the Former British Embassy Villa Memorial Park, where you can quietly enjoy the historic buildings, beautiful gardens, and lake views. In particular, the wooden deck of the Italian Embassy Villa Memorial Park offers a spectacular view that makes you feel like you're at an overseas resort. You can also enjoy the nature of Lake Chuzenji at your own pace by strolling along the lakeside promenade, avoiding the crowds.
