This is the source of Hokkaido's Noboribetsu Onsen, an active volcanic valley where you can enjoy the rugged, raw nature. The rugged landscape, filled with smoke and the smell of sulfur and said to be home to demons, is a spectacular sight.
Noboribetsu Jigokudani is the largest hot spring area in Noboribetsu City, Hokkaido, and more than 10,000 tons of hot spring water gushes out every day. It is the remains of the explosion crater of the active volcano Hiyoriyama, and the entire valley is filled with white smoke and a strong smell of sulfur, creating a rugged landscape that looks like a hellish scene. It was named "Hell Valley" because of its unique scenery, and it has become one of Hokkaido's most famous tourist spots. There is a walking path where you can observe the impressive smoke, hot springs, and fumaroles of various sizes up close.

Around Jigokudani, hot springs of various spring qualities gush out, such as Iron Spring Pond and Oyunuma. In particular, "Oyunuma" is a gourd-shaped swamp about 1 km in circumference and about 22 m deep. The surface temperature is about 40 to 50 degrees, and the steam rising from the hot springs is a true mystery of nature. At the "Oyunuma River Natural Footbath" that flows from Oyunuma, you can soak your feet in the natural hot spring water to soothe your tired feet after a long walk. This footbath is a hidden popular spot where you can enjoy forest bathing and hot spring bathing at the same time.

At night, it is lit up as the "Will-o'-the-Wisp Path," creating a fantastical atmosphere that is different from the daytime. The smell of sulfur wafts through the air, and the faint smoke rising from the water is reminiscent of the "valley where demons live." It is a place where you can experience the power and mystery of nature with your skin and enjoy it with all five senses.
