This shrine in Miyazaki City enshrines Emperor Jimmu, the first emperor of Japan. Surrounded by sacred forests, you can experience history and mythology in a solemn atmosphere.
Miyazaki Jingu Shrine, located in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture, is a shrine dedicated to Emperor Jimmu, the first emperor of Japan. Emperor Jimmu is said to have been born in Hyuga, and after an expedition to the east, ascended to the throne as the first emperor in Yamato, making Miyazaki an important place associated with Emperor Jimmu. The shrine grounds are surrounded by a vast sacred forest called "Jingu no Mori," which is also designated as a national natural monument, and despite being located in the heart of the city, it exudes a quiet and solemn atmosphere. Due to its history and dignity, it is a power spot representing Miyazaki, and many worshippers visit the shrine.

The shrine offers benefits such as safety for the family, longevity and good health, business prosperity and good fortune, traffic and travel safety, academic success and victory, safe childbirth and children, and good luck in marriage and relationships. In addition, the shrine is unique in that it enshrines the first emperor, Emperor Jimmu, and offers prayers for peace and prosperity for the nation, harmony among all people, and prosperity for the nation.

The shrine's architectural style is unique, using hinoki cypress wood. Although simple, it exudes traditional Japanese beauty and dignity. In addition to the main hall, there are many auxiliary and subordinate shrines scattered around, each of which enshrines a different god. The spacious grounds are perfect for a stroll, and you can visit the shrine in a tranquil setting while feeling the changing of nature with each season. In particular, the cherry blossoms in spring and the autumn leaves in autumn are beautiful, allowing you to enjoy the scenery in harmony with nature.

Miyazaki Shrine is known for its grand festival, "Jinmu-sama (Miyazaki Shrine Festival)," held every October. During this festival, a procession reenacting the scene of Emperor Jimmu's departure for the eastern expedition is held, and the city of Miyazaki is full of energy.

[Hidden gem]
It's nice to stroll around the spacious grounds, but the Miyazaki Prefectural Museum behind the shrine is a hidden gem where you can learn more about Miyazaki's history, nature, and folklore. In addition, Heiwadai Park, located on the northwest side of the shrine (5 minutes by car), has a Peace Tower and a haniwa garden on its vast grounds, and is recommended for walking and picnicking.
