Tadewara Marsh is a marshland located in Chojahara, Kokonoe Town, Kuju District, Oita Prefecture, overlooking the Kokonoe Mountains, along the popular driving route of the Yamanami Highway. It is a treasure trove of rare plants and animals, and a natural museum where you can enjoy marsh plants in all four seasons.
Tadewara Marsh is a high-altitude marsh at an altitude of about 1,000 meters, located at the foot of the Kuju Mountains in Kokonoe Town, Kuju District, Oita Prefecture. It is an internationally important wetland registered under the Ramsar Convention and is also designated as a national natural monument. Blessed with a cool climate and abundant underground water, it is known as a "museum of nature" where various flora and fauna, including sphagnum moss, marsh plants, and rare insects, live. It shows beautiful expressions in each season, with Asian skunk cabbage in spring, egret flowers and tiger lilies in summer, and autumn goldenrods and gentians in autumn. In particular, the silver grass fields shine golden in autumn, creating a magnificent view.

There are boardwalks in the marsh, and while walking on them, you can leisurely enjoy the marsh plants spreading out at your feet and the majestic view of the Kokonoe Mountains in the distance. The boardwalks have few steps, making them safe for everyone from small children to the elderly.

Tadewara Marsh is adjacent to the Chojabaru Visitor Center, run by the Ministry of the Environment, which displays the origins of the marsh and its flora and fauna, as well as providing the latest information. There are also many tourist spots in the area, such as the Kokonoe "Yume" Suspension Bridge and hiking routes to the Kokonoe Mountains, making this a recommended spot for those who want to enjoy nature to the fullest.

Parking is available at the Chojabaru Visitor Center.
