Located in the epicenter of the atomic bombing, this park was created as a symbol of a vow to never repeat a tragic war and a wish for world peace.
The Peace Statue was created by Mr. Seibo Kitamura, a sculptor from Nagasaki City, and is made of bronze, approximately 9.7 meters high and weighing approximately 30 tons. The right hand of the statue represents the threat of the atomic bomb, the left hand represents peace, and the face represents prayers for the repose of the souls of war victims.
The Fountain of Peace was built to comfort the spirits of hibakusha who suffered from the hot wind caused by the atomic bomb. In front of the fountain is a note written by Sachiko Yamaguchi, who was 9 years old at the time of the atomic bombing.
The Peace Bell was built in 1975, 20 years after the atomic bomb was dropped, with donations from atomic bomb survivors and citizens. Bells are rung to emphasize the importance of peace and pray for world peace.
