Sumaura Sanjo Amusement Park

Located in Suma Ward, Kobe City, this mountaintop amusement park can be reached by ropeway. It features a Showa-era retro rotating observation tower, a cycle monorail, and a panoramic view of the Seto Inland Sea from outside Kobe city.
To get to the Sumaura Rotating Observatory at the top of the mountain, you can take the ropeway and car elevator. You can also walk up without using the car elevator, but it is recommended for small children and people who don't want to walk.

The observation deck at the top of the mountain is a rotating observation deck that is full of Showa-era atmosphere, which is rare these days. You can enjoy a spectacular view of the Kobe cityscape, Mt. Rokko, and the Seto Inland Sea. The cafe and small game center inside the building also have a realistic Showa-era retro feel.

To get from the observation deck to Sumaura Yamagami Amusement Park, you can take the tourist lift. However, it is only open on weekends.
The main attractions of Sumaura Yamagami Amusement Park are the cycle monorail, mini car land, and flower plaza. Therefore, it is better to think of the tourist lift as an entertainment attraction in itself, rather than as a means of transportation.

Sumaura Yamagami Amusement Park may look like a rundown amusement park with aging facilities, but depending on how you look at it, it's a great tourist spot for both children and adults, where you can experience a real, good old Showa retro atmosphere that is not staged.

[Useful points of concern]
As of 2025, the "Great Value Set Ticket" includes the ropeway, carlator, observation tower, and sightseeing lift (2,100 yen). Even if you buy them all separately, the total is 2,270 yen. There is not much difference, so if you are unsure, you can just buy each one when you need them. However, if you don't want to walk much or want to experience Showa retro, I recommend that you don't hesitate to get the set ticket.
The sightseeing lift, cycle monorail, and minicar land are basically only open on Saturdays and Sundays. They are open on public holidays and summer vacations.
