Located in Saitama City, this museum allows you to experience the history and future of railways. With actual trains and driving simulators, this is a must-see facility for railway fans.
Located in Omiya Ward, Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, the Railway Museum is a museum where you can learn about the history and science and technology of Japanese railways in a systematic way. It opened in 2007 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of JR East's founding. The vast grounds are home to a large number of actual railway vehicles, from steam locomotives to Shinkansen trains, and the impressive sights are overwhelming. There are plenty of experiential content, such as exhibits that allow you to learn about the mechanisms and history of railways in a fun way, and driving simulators, so children and adults alike can enjoy the museum all day long.

The greatest attraction of this museum is the abundance of exhibits and experience programs. The "D51 Simulator," which reproduces the dynamic whistle and running of the D51 steam locomotive, and the "E5 Series Shinkansen Simulator," where you can experience driving a Shinkansen, are very popular. You can also enjoy the charm of railways from various angles, such as riding a miniature train around the vast grounds and viewing the world of detailed railway models in a railway diorama. By tracing the history of the evolution of railways, you can also learn about Japan's industrial development.

The Railway Museum is a highly recommended spot for not only train fans, but also families and those interested in Japanese science and technology. The restaurant also serves unique railway-themed dishes.
