The ruins of the former Toyama Castle in Toyama City. It has now been developed into Toyama Castle Ruins Park, and houses the Toyama Castle Local Museum and the Toyama Sato Memorial Art Museum, allowing visitors to experience history and culture.
Toyama Castle is located in the Honmaru area of Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture. It is the site of Toyama Castle, which was once the residence of Sassa Narimasa, a Sengoku warlord who ruled Etchu (present-day Toyama Prefecture), and the Maeda clan, lords of Toyama during the Edo period. It is now maintained as "Toyama Castle Site Park" and is a place of relaxation for local citizens. Within the park, there is the "Toyama Castle Local Museum," which is modeled after the castle tower, and the "Toyama City Sato Memorial Museum," which exhibits art works. It is a complex where you can enjoy history and art at the same time, and many tourists visit.

In the Meiji period, Toyama Castle was abandoned, and the stone walls and castle tower were demolished.
In 1953, Toyama Castle was rebuilt as a replica castle tower, and is currently used as the Toyama City Local Museum. From the castle tower, you can get a panoramic view of Toyama city. Although it has not been selected as one of the 100 most famous castles in Japan, it was selected as one of the "100 Most Famous Castles in Japan (No. 101 to 200)" in 2017.
Takaoka Castle in Toyama Prefecture has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Greatest Castles.

The greatest appeal of this castle park is its historical background and its role as an oasis in the city. You can get a real feel for Toyama's history by strolling around the park and imagining the castle that once stood here. In spring, the park is known as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, and is crowded with many visitors. The stroll-around pond garden, Matsukawa Riverside, is also beautiful, and you can enjoy nature in all four seasons. At the Toyama Castle Local History Museum, you can see exhibits related to the history of Toyama Castle and Toyama's local culture.
