Kushida Shrine is a shrine located in Kamikawabata-cho, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City. It is affectionately called "O-Kushida-san" by the local Hakata people, who are famous for the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival.
Located in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, Kushida Shrine is a shrine that has long been worshipped by local people as the main guardian deity of Hakata. It is said to have been founded in 757 (the first year of the Tenpyo Hoji era) and is loved as the guardian deity of Hakata merchants and the god of eternal youth and longevity. It is particularly famous as the starting point of the Oi Yamakasa, the climax of the Hakata Gion Yamakasa, a summer tradition in Hakata, and is visited by many worshippers and tourists throughout the year. The grounds are a power spot surrounded by a solemn and calm atmosphere, even though it is located in the center of the city.

The deities enshrined are Owatatsumi no Mikoto (Kushida Shrine) in the main hall, Amaterasu Omikami (Okami Shrine) in the left hall, and Susanoo no Mikoto (Gion Shrine) in the right hall.

Kushida Shrine has been the main guardian deity of Hakata for over 1,260 years, attracting the faith of parishioners and worshippers, and has inherited the culture and traditional events of the townspeople of Hakata to this day.

The greatest attraction of this shrine is its historical weight and the fact that Hakata culture is strongly present there. In the precincts, there is a permanent exhibition of the gorgeous and gorgeous "decorative Yamakasa" that is actually used in the "Hakata Gion Yamakasa", a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, and you can feel its power up close even outside of the festival period. There are also many things to see, such as the "Reisen Tsuru no Ido", known as the "sacred spring of immortality and longevity", and the "Chikaraishi". The main hall and worship hall are beautiful vermilion-painted shrine buildings, and their majestic appearance impresses all who visit.
