The highlights of Ujigami Shrine are the main hall and worship hall, both designated National Treasures. The main hall is believed to have been built around the 11th century and has a unique structure consisting of three connected shrine buildings. The worship hall, on the other hand, is a beautiful shinden-zukuri building believed to have been constructed during the Kamakura period. Both buildings possess a simple yet powerful beauty, evoking the splendor of traditional Japanese architecture.
Ujikami Shrine, together with the neighboring Uji Shrine, are known as the "Two Uji Shrines" and have long been a place of worship for people.
Byodoin Temple is about a 10-minute walk away. A pedestrian-only bridge spans the river between the two shrines.
[Useful Tips]
The parking lot may be difficult to find, but it's on the left after passing through the torii gate. The road is narrow and difficult to pass other vehicles, so it may not be worth the effort.
