Torizaka Manju is located on a mountain pass in Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture. This 150-year-old shop is known for its secret sweet sake dough and bamboo leaf wrapping, making it a great place to stop by on a Setouchi drive and Chichibugahama beach sightseeing tour.
Located along National Route 11 and the Iyo Kaido, this famous manju shop is located on a small mountain pass in Mino Town, Mitoyo City. Founded approximately 150 years ago during the Edo period, this long-established shop is beloved by locals and travelers of all ages. Despite its simple facade, the steam and sweet aroma rising from the steamers draw in a steady stream of cars on weekends, starting from early morning.

Their signature product, the "Torizawa Manju," is made with a dough kneaded with homemade amazake (sweet sake) specifically for manju, wrapped around a subtly sweet bean paste, and slowly steamed for approximately 30 minutes. The uniquely fluffy and moist texture makes these bite-sized treats so light they'll have you reaching for multiple. Freshly made, they're wrapped in bamboo or tree bark, and the fragrant aroma that wafts forth upon opening the wrapper is part of the treat. Many people buy them in bulk as a snack on a drive or as a gift, and they're also known as a popular local "gift sweet."

[Helpful Tips]
The expiration date is generally "by the same day," so the best way to enjoy them is to eat them on the day you buy them. Freshly steamed oysters are lined up one after another in the morning, and on some days the shop closes once they're sold out, so we recommend stopping by here for a morning snack before exploring the scenic spots in the Mitoyo area, such as Chichibugahama Beach, Mt. Shiude, and Takaya Shrine.
