Legend has it that long ago, demons from Onigashima brought two large rocks to help the people of Kure, who were plagued by big waves. These two rocks are currently considered to be Kannon Island and Benten Island on Futana Island.

Futanajima is a scenic spot that has been selected as one of Kochi Prefecture's Top 10 Scenic Spots of Tosa. The island is connected to land by an embankment and can be crossed on foot. There are also promenades and observation decks on the island where you can enjoy the ocean views.
