Myo-o-in Temple, located in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is an extremely valuable ancient temple, with both its main hall and five-story pagoda, built during the Kamakura period, designated as national treasures. It is considered one of the oldest wooden buildings in the Chugoku region, and its unique eclectic architecture, which combines Japanese and Chinese styles, is highly regarded as a masterpiece that brings together the best of medieval Japanese Buddhist architecture.
The greatest attraction of Myo-in Temple is the beauty of its national treasures, the main hall and the five-story pagoda. The main hall was built in 1321 during the middle of the Kamakura period, and its simple and sturdy construction and detailed design convey the weight of history. Meanwhile, the five-story pagoda was built in 1348, and is characterized by an eclectic style that incorporates elements of Chinese style while based on Japanese style. The sight of these two national treasures standing side by side is spectacular, and you will be impressed by their imposing appearance when you see them with your own eyes.

The temple grounds are surrounded by a quiet and calm atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle, and the historic temple buildings and abundant nature are in harmony. In the cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons, the contrast between the architecture and nature is even more beautiful, and a leisurely stroll along the walking paths will allow you to experience the history and faith that has been passed down for hundreds of years.

Myo-in Temple was also the temple that was responsible for protecting the medieval port town of Kusado Sengen, and its historical background is also interesting. If you want to experience the beauty of traditional Japanese architecture and the romance of history in a quiet environment, this is a must-visit spot.
