Goshoji Temple, the 78th temple among the 88 Sacred Sites of Shikoku, is a temple located in Utazu Town, Kagawa Prefecture. The principal image is Amida Nyorai, which belongs to both Shingon and Jishu sects.
Goshoji Temple is said to have been founded in 725 (the second year of the Jinki era) during the Nara period. It was founded by Gyoki Bodhisattva and was originally known as "Bukkozan Dojoji Temple."

When Kobo Daishi visited the temple in 815 (the sixth year of the Kōnin era), he sensed it was a place connected to Buddhism and carved a statue of himself, vowing to ward off evil. For this reason, Goshoji Temple is widely revered as the "Utazu Daishi, the Great Master of Protection from Misfortune."

The temple grounds house a statue of Kobo Daishi, as well as a stone statue said to have been used for his training. The temple grounds also offer views of the Seto Bridge.

Goshoji Temple is a relatively recent addition to the 88 sacred sites of Shikoku. However, its history and traditions are ancient, and it is revered by many people.
