Suirokaku is an aqueduct bridge over the Lake Biwa Canal, located in Nanzenji Temple, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. Completed in 1912, the arched bridge piers made of red brick and granite are a famous landmark representing the Kyoto landscape, and many women visit the bridge to take pictures.
Suirokaku is a brick arch aqueduct built to allow a branch of the Lake Biwa Canal to cross the grounds of Nanzenji Temple. Designed by Sakuro Tanabe, its Romanesque design, which respects the landscape, is an appealing feature of this active infrastructure, with water still flowing through it today. The shadows cast by the continuous arches, approximately 93 meters long and 13 meters high, are striking in the soft morning light and the moist air after rain. It's popular with photographers throughout the year, capturing the cherry blossoms of spring, moss in summer, autumn leaves, and snowy winter scenery.

[Trivia]
As a symbol of Kyoto's history and modernization, Suirokaku has been designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. In 2015, the "Lake Biwa Canal" was registered as a Japan Heritage Site.
