A former international tourist hotel on the shores of Lake Biwa. The retro building and beautiful English garden are attractive. You can enjoy strolling and dining in a space overlooking the lake.
Biwako Otsukan is a facility that utilizes a historical building that was built as an international hotel in the early Showa period. Its unique design, which combines Momoyama-style Japanese architecture with Western-style interiors, earned it the nickname "Guest House of the Lake Country."

Inside the building, there are exhibits that retain the atmosphere of the hotel, as well as a restaurant, cafe, and shop, which are free to visit. You can spend a relaxing time while looking out at the view of Lake Biwa.

There is a vast English garden on the premises, where flowers of all seasons are planted, especially many types of roses, creating a beautiful landscape when they are in full bloom. There is a fee to enjoy a stroll through the garden.

Admission to the Biwako Otsukan building itself is free.

Children (elementary and junior high school students, 65 years and older) 160 yen

[Opening Hours]
9:00-22:00
*Opening hours vary depending on the facility (restaurants, shops, gardens, etc.). English Garden opening hours vary depending on the season (usually March to November).

[Closed Days]
Irregular Holidays
*There are several days a year when the facility is closed for equipment inspections, etc. The English Garden is closed in winter (December to February, except during the illumination period). Please check the official website for details.

[Parking]
Available (paid). You can use the paid parking lot at Yanagasaki Lakeside Park.
Standard cars: 220 yen for 1 hour, 330 yen for 2 hours, 440 yen for 3 hours, and 220 yen for every 30 minutes thereafter (maximum 880 yen on weekdays, maximum 1,100 yen on weekends and holidays)
