This is the head shrine of the approximately 3,000 Hakusan shrines across the country. Enshrining Kukurihime as its main deity, this solemn power spot surrounded by cedar groves is said to bring good fortune in matchmaking and the creation and development of life.
Hakusan Hime Shrine is the head shrine of Hakusan faith, which worships the sacred mountain Hakusan as its deity. It is said to have begun when the monk Taicho Daishi built the inner shrine in 717, and boasts a history of about 1,300 years. Located at the foot of Mt. Hakusan in Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture, it is known as a prestigious shrine that stands at the top of Hakusan shrines spread throughout the country.
The main deity is Kukurihime no Kami. As the name "kukuru" means to tie, it is said to bring good luck in finding a good match, harmony, and mediation, and has long been revered as the protector of agriculture and the god of water. The grounds are lined with cedar trees that are over hundreds of years old, and are filled with pure "ki".
As you walk along the approach, the clear water of the temizuya (purification fountain) will cleanse your soul, and at the top of the stone steps, the majestic shrine building will come into view. It also plays an important role as the starting point for worship at Mt. Hakusan, and is a power spot that purifies the body and mind, where you can fully experience the power of nature and the sacred atmosphere.
