Located on Cape Muroto, this cave is associated with Kobo Daishi. In this mysterious space on the shoreline, you can feel the footprints of the master's training and the energy of the earth.
Mikurodo Cave and Shinmei Cave are caves located near the tip of Cape Muroto in Muroto City, Kochi Prefecture, where it is said that Kobo Daishi (Kukai) practiced asceticism in his youth. These two caves, which were opened in a rock wall where the rough waves of the Pacific Ocean crash, are known as power spots visited by many pilgrims and tourists due to their mysterious atmosphere and historical significance as a sacred place associated with Kobo Daishi. Mikurodo Cave is particularly famous for the sky and sea seen from inside the cave, which look like a painting.

The greatest attraction of this cave is its unique scenery and the fact that you can feel the footsteps of Kobo Daishi's asceticism on your skin. Mikurodo Cave faces the water's edge, and when you look inside from the entrance of the cave, you will be enveloped in a mysterious atmosphere as the sound of the waves and the smell of the sea spread. There is also a legend that long ago, when Kobo Daishi was practicing in this cave, he could only see the sky and the sea, so he took the name "Kukai". Shinmei Cave is located next to Mikuriya Cave and is said to have been used as a place of pilgrimage in the past.

[Useful points of concern]
The "Ranjo Promenade" on the sea side opposite the cave is close to the water's edge and is very dangerous at high waves and high tide. Never approach, especially in stormy weather. There are many slippery areas and rocky areas, so we strongly recommend wearing comfortable, non-slip shoes. If you are bringing children, please keep an eye on them and exercise caution.
