The surrounding area features well-maintained walking trails and observation decks, allowing visitors to enjoy the beauty of the falls from various angles. The waterfall is adorned with seasonal changes, from cherry blossoms in spring, deep green in summer, and autumn foliage in autumn, captivating visitors. The contrast between the vibrant colors of the trees and the white spray of the spray is particularly striking during the autumn foliage season, attracting many tourists and photographers. This waterfall, said to have been visited by poets such as Isamu Yoshii, is a scenic spot representing Kochi Prefecture, blending history and nature.
From the parking lot to the observation deck is approximately 350m, and from there, you can descend another 50m of stairs to reach the waterfall basin. It takes approximately 15 minutes one way from the parking lot to the basin.
The path to the observation deck is flat and easy, but the descent from the observation deck to the basin requires a fair amount of stairs, so the return journey requires some physical strength.
[Hidden Gem]
There is a red suspension bridge near the basin, and the view of the waterfall from this bridge is also spectacular. The bridge sways if you walk roughly, so it's a thrill for children.
[Helpful Concerns]
As you approach the waterfall, the road narrows, making passing difficult in some places. While there are passing areas scattered around, some are only a few hundred meters wide, so be careful of oncoming traffic.
Also, when entering Prefectural Route 220 from National Route 195, always enter from the south. If you enter from the Nagase Dam side on the north side, the road is rough and you will have a hard time if you encounter an oncoming vehicle. Also, although I don't think you will go through it, Prefectural Route 217 (which only partially passes through) is also a rough road, so it is best not to take it.
The rocky area around the basin of the waterfall is quite slippery, so it is best to wear non-slip sneakers. Also, slipping on the rocks around the basin can be life-threatening, so caution is required with children, etc.
The Todoroki-no-Taki Chaya teahouse in the parking lot is only open on weekends and holidays.
