The "Shiogama Cold Springs" in Hiruzen, Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture, are a group of springs that have been selected as one of the "100 Famous Waters" by the Ministry of the Environment. The water temperature is low, at around 10°C throughout the year, and it is known for its purity and delicious taste.
The cold springs of Shiogama are a blessing from nature, springing from the foot of Kami-Hiruzen, one of the three peaks of Hiruzen Mountain. They are characterized by their abundant water volume and low water temperature throughout the year, and are called the "natural refrigerator" because they are cold even in summer and do not freeze even in winter. The spring water is drinkable, and many people bring plastic containers or plastic bottles to collect water. The mellow taste and refreshing feeling are exceptional, and it is said to be perfect for coffee, tea, and cooking. There are walking paths in the surrounding area, and you can enjoy forest bathing while walking in the refreshing air surrounded by virgin beech forests.

Near the cold spring is the "Hiruzen Shiogama Fish Farming Center," which uses the water from the cold spring, where you can enjoy stream fishing for rainbow trout and other fish. You can also grill and eat the fish you catch on the spot, so it is a popular place for families and friends. In addition, the place where you can draw water from the cold spring also has a rest area and a shop where you can purchase souvenirs made with the cold spring water and local specialty products. In March 2025, the Hiruzen Shiogama Camping Village will also be reopened, making it easier for longer stays.
