It is a shrine with a famous history in the marriage.
Yaegaki Shrine is known as the place where the Japanese myth "Slaying the Yamata no Orochi" took place. It has been worshipped as a god of matchmaking since ancient times. The main deity is Susanoo-no-Mikoto and Kushinadahime-no-Mikoto, whom he is said to have saved from the Yamata no Orochi. Since the two became husband and wife, the shrine is said to be particularly beneficial for finding a good match and a happy marriage.

The greatest attraction of this shrine is the fortune-telling at Kagami-no-ike Pond, located in the forest at the back of the shrine grounds. Place a coin (10 yen or 100 yen coin) on a special piece of washi paper and float it in the pond. The time it takes for the paper to sink tells you how quickly your match will come, and whether it floats far away or sinks close by, and whether your good match is near or far away. This mystical experience is very popular with many female tourists.

Behind the main hall is the place where Susanoo-no-Mikoto is said to have built a double fence to deceive the Yamata-no-Orochi snake, and the couple camellia trees are also popular as a symbol of marriage. This is a power spot representing the Izumo region, where you can feel the romance of history and marriage while surrounded by pure water and greenery in the land where the myth took place.
