Sabou Kira in Kamakura is a popular sweets shop known for its giant Anmitsu shiratama (rice balls with sweet bean paste inside). You can enjoy the warm, freshly made shiratama and the typical Kamakura atmosphere.
Located in Onarimachi, Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, Sabo Kirara is a sweet shop famous for its large shiratama (rice flour dumplings) the size of ping pong balls. It is located in a quiet residential area a short walk from the west exit of JR Kamakura Station, and the interior of the shop, which was renovated from a single-family home, has a calm atmosphere and is loved by tourists and locals alike. The slightly warm, shiny, and chewy shiratama (rice flour dumplings) are boiled after an order is placed, and the texture and deliciousness of the dumplings attract many people, making them so popular that there are long lines every day.

You can enjoy a variety of shiratama dishes, such as "Uji shiratama cream anmitsu" and "shiratama fruit cream anmitsu." In particular, the Uji shiratama anmitsu, where the deep flavor of matcha goes perfectly with the shiratama, has a moderate sweetness and a mature taste. Shaved ice is also popular in the summer, and "kori shiratama uji kintoki" (rice flour dumplings with shiratama) with large shiratama is also available. It is recommended for those who want to take their time to enjoy traditional Japanese sweets during their Kamakura sightseeing.

Its location, within walking distance of Kamakura Station, is attractive, but it is located in a residential area, so it may be a little difficult to find if you are visiting for the first time. Nevertheless, there is no end to fans who are willing to wait in line to eat there, probably because the taste, the warmth of the freshly made shiratama, and the atmosphere of the restaurant give visitors a special sense of satisfaction.

[Trivia]
The name is written as "Kirara" and pronounced "Kirara". The shiratama here are carefully handmade one by one after an order is placed, so you can enjoy the warmth of the freshly made shiratama. For this reason, it may take some time to be served, but the wait time can be said to be part of the deliciousness.

[Hidden Spot Information]
Sabo Kirara is on the way to Zeniarai Benzaiten, so it is recommended to stop by Zeniarai Benzaiten Ugafuku Shrine after your meal to pray for good fortune. There is also a quiet residential area nearby, so it is nice to take a stroll and feel the atmosphere of Kamakura.
