Cape Muroto belongs to Muroto City, Kochi Prefecture, and is the cape at the tip of the Muroto Peninsula that protrudes into the Pacific Ocean.
The entire cape is part of the Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark. Striped rocks (turbidite layers) and traces of uplift are exposed on the seabed, and along the coastal promenade, you can encounter the extraordinary sight of a Japanese lantern tree, a national natural monument and representative of subtropical coastal plant communities, clinging to the rocks. Muroto's true charm lies in being able to experience the dynamic topography and vegetation up close.

Geography: Muroto is located at the southern end where the Aki Mountains drop into the Pacific Ocean, jutting out into the Pacific Ocean and separating the Kii Channel from Tosa Bay.

Mudstone, sandstone, and gabbro form coastal terraces, reefs, and unusually shaped rocks. The area is warm even in winter, allowing subtropical plants to thrive.

Coastal terraces have developed west of the cape, making it a popular tourist spot with its unique topography and abundant nature.

There are many attractions, including a coastal promenade offering dynamic views and a lighthouse on a hilltop offering beautiful sunsets and night views.

Cape Muroto is also known as a power spot, home to Mikurodo Cave, where Kukai (Kobo Daishi) is said to have been enlightened, and the 88 Sacred Temples of Shikoku (Saigoji Temple).

[Trivia]
- Daruma sunrises and sunsets are a winter tradition in Muroto. They occur roughly from late September to mid-March.

[Hidden Gems]
- About a five-minute climb up the stairs to the left of the Nakaoka Shintaro Statue is the Cape Muroto Observatory, a great photo spot with a panoramic view of the entire coastline of Cape Muroto.
- Mikurodo Cave and Shinmei Cave: Sea caves associated with Kobo Daishi. This power spot is particularly popular at sunrise, when the morning sun shines into the cave, creating a mystical landscape.
