Akashi Municipal Astronomical Museum is a museum with the theme of "time and the universe" located on the Japan Standard Time Meridian in Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture. It is Japan's first science museum and is home to the country's oldest planetarium.
Akashi Municipal Astronomical Science Museum is a hub for time and space, located on the 135th meridian east. The Carl Zeiss Jena star projector, in operation since the museum's opening in 1960, is one of Japan's oldest still-operating machines, projecting approximately 9,000 stars accompanied by live commentary from a guide. The exhibition room provides easy-to-understand explanations of the connection between clocks and astronomy and the system of Japan Standard Time. Learning about time will be a memorable experience for children and adults alike.

The planetarium features a large projector with a 21-meter diameter, projecting a 360-degree starry sky.

The astronomical telescope is a 60-cm diameter Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, allowing visitors to enjoy astronomical observations at night.

The science exhibition room features a variety of space-related exhibits and an interactive corner.

Akashi Municipal Astronomical Science Museum is a facility that anyone with an interest in space and science can enjoy.

The observation decks on the 13th and 14th floors offer a 360-degree panoramic view of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, Awaji Island, and the Rokko mountain range. The red lines on the floor and pillars give a sense of the meridian, and the world clock panels add to the learning experience.

The outdoor Sundial Plaza is popular for its hands-on human sundial and other sundials that allow you to read the time. There is also a kids' room and nursing room, and the wide range of activities available ranges from programs for babies and children to unique projections such as the "Deep Sleep Planetarium."
