Mount Rokko is famous for its million-dollar night view. Enjoy the spectacular views from the garden terrace, the weeping observation deck, and the cable car at this highland resort, where you can enjoy a Kobe-style night view date and family sightseeing all in one.
A mere 30 minutes from downtown Rokko will transport you to another world. Heading up the mountain on the Rokko Cable Car will first reveal a magnificent panoramic view stretching from Osaka Bay to Kobe Port from the Tenrandai and Rokko Garden Terrace. Orange and ultramarine blend together at dusk, and after sunset, a sea of light appears. The expansive view and the sense of depth created by the altitude are unique charms of the mountaintop night view, setting it apart from Kitano and Harborland. A mountain bus connects the various facilities within the park, providing convenient routes for both walking and enjoying the scenery.
The highlights of the night view are the Garden Terrace's Observation Deck and the beautiful, organically-framed Rokko Shidare (Weeping Tree). The lighting effects change with the seasons and time of day, with cool breezes in summer and crisp air in winter enhancing the starry sky and city lights. There are plenty of dining and cafe options, allowing you to enjoy the "time of light" at leisure, with restaurants serving Genghis Khan and local ingredients, or takeout hot drinks.
If you want to stretch your legs, take the Rokko-Arima Ropeway, which connects the mountaintop with Arima Onsen in 12 minutes. The "hot springs + night view" golden course is also popular, where you descend the mountain, warm up in the Kinsen and Ginsen springs, and then return to the night view. While you can visit various night view spots by car, parking has space and time limits, so public transportation + cable car is a more comfortable option during peak hours.
