Shikokumura Miuseum is a unique theme park themed around rural houses in Shikoku from the Edo period to the early Showa period.
Shikoku Mura Miuseum is located at the southern foot of Yashima in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, and is dotted with precious houses from the Edo period to the Meiji period that were relocated and restored from all over Shikoku. Each building, such as a thatched-roof farmhouse with a hearth and a samurai residence with stone walls, strongly reflects the way people lived at that time and the characteristics of the region, making you feel as if you have traveled back in time. Inside the buildings, daily necessities and farm tools from that time are exhibited, allowing you to experience the original Japanese landscape.

The vast grounds are decorated with a "Kazura Bridge" that reproduces Japanese rice terraces, a watermill, and other features, creating a beautiful landscape that is one with nature. One of the pleasures of walking along the walking paths is listening to the birds chirping and the babbling of the river, and looking at the plants that change with the seasons. There is also the "Shikoku Mura Gallery" where contemporary art works are exhibited, so you can enjoy the fusion of traditional and contemporary art.

It takes about two hours to walk around the whole area at a leisurely pace.

Shikokumura Gallery was designed by architect Tadao Ando.

[Useful points to note]
The site is vast and hilly, so you will need a fair amount of physical strength to see everything. It gets especially hot in the summer, so it's essential to stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun. Also, since it's an outdoor facility, you'll need an umbrella and rain gear when it rains.
