Hyakusaiji Temple is the oldest temple in the three Koto Sanzan mountains and is associated with Prince Shotoku. It is famous for its vast grounds, beautiful gardens, and autumn leaves, making it a relaxing place to spend time.
Located in Higashiomi City, Shiga Prefecture, Baekje Temple is a Tendai sect temple that is said to have been opened by Prince Shotoku in the 14th year of the reign of Emperor Suiko (606). Its history spans over 1,400 years, making it one of the oldest temples in Omi Province. Currently, the vast grounds, designated as a national historic site, are dotted with historical buildings, including the main hall, an important cultural property. The current main hall was rebuilt during the Edo period. The grounds house the Eleven-Headed Kannon Bodhisattva, a national treasure said to have been created by Prince Shotoku.

The great attraction of Baekje Temple is its beautiful garden, a "famous garden with a distant view of the world." From the strolling garden with a pond, you can enjoy a view that is also known as "Mount Hiei of the Lake East" because it is at the same latitude as Mount Hiei, and the sunset over the Hira mountain range is particularly spectacular. In autumn, the entire temple grounds are colored with autumn leaves, attracting many visitors, and the temple was chosen as one of the "Top 100 Autumn Foliage Spots in Japan" and one of the "Top Five Autumn Foliage Spots in the Kinki Region." You can enjoy a leisurely stroll while feeling the changing of nature with each season.

In the past, the temple expanded greatly in scale, but the entire mountain was burned down by Oda Nobunaga.
