Daigoji Temple is the head temple of the Daigo school of Shingon Buddhism in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City, and is also a World Heritage Site. It is attractive for its historical buildings, including the National Treasure five-story pagoda and main hall, as well as the beautiful nature of the four seasons.
The greatest attraction of Daigoji Temple is its vast grounds and the wealth of things to see. It is divided into Shimo Daigo and Kami Daigo, and Shimo Daigo in particular is home to many valuable buildings built during the Heian period, including the national treasure five-story pagoda and the main hall. The five-story pagoda is the oldest wooden building still standing in Kyoto Prefecture, and its splendor is worth seeing. In spring, the impressive rows of cherry trees known as "Daigo no Sakura" (cherry blossoms) line the grounds, and in autumn, the autumn leaves color the grounds, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of nature in every season. It is particularly known for hosting the "Daigo Cherry Blossom Viewing" event, and in this space where history and nature blend together, you can deeply feel the Japanese sense of aesthetics.

On the other hand, there are also disadvantages. First of all, the grounds are so vast that it takes a lot of time and stamina to see everything. In particular, the road to Kami Daigo is a steep mountain path, and it takes 2 to 3 hours round trip. If you are not confident in your legs or have limited time, we recommend visiting only Shimo-Daigo.
Also, since it is located a little far from the center of Kyoto, you should take into consideration that it will take time to get there.
