Honnoji Temple is the head temple of the Hokke sect of Buddhism located in the center of Kyoto City. It is famous in history as the site of the Honnoji Incident, when Oda Nobunaga was attacked by Akechi Mitsuhide, and attracts many history fans.
The biggest advantage of Honnoji Temple is that it is the site of the Honnoji Incident, a major event in Japanese history. For history fans, it is a sacred place, and standing at the place where Nobunaga met his end allows you to reminisce about the tense situation at the time and Nobunaga's regret. Within the temple grounds, there is the mausoleum of Oda Nobunaga and the Daihoden Treasure Museum, which displays items related to Nobunaga, allowing you to experience the historical facts firsthand. In addition, since it is located in the center of Kyoto City, it is very easy to access other tourist spots and can be easily incorporated into your sightseeing route.

The current Honnoji Temple was rebuilt after it was burned down in the Honnoji Incident and has been relocated from its original location. Therefore, it is important to note that you will not be able to see it exactly as it was at the time of the incident. The temple grounds are relatively compact, and the main attraction is the Treasure Museum.

There are also quaint streets such as the Kamo River, Kiyamachi Street, and Pontocho Kabuki Theater in the surrounding area.
Near Shijo Street is Nishiki Market in Nishikikoji, known as Kyoto's kitchen.
