Narai-juku on the Nakasendo

The atmosphere of the former post town in Shiojiri on the Nakasendo still remains today.
The biggest attraction of Narai-juku is its historic townscape. The townscape, which retains strong traces of the Edo period, has been designated as a nationally important preservation district for groups of traditional buildings.

Narai-juku is also famous as a production area for Kiso lacquerware. There are many lacquerware workshops and shops in the town, where you can experience the traditional craft of Kiso lacquerware.
