A mountain village in the northern part of Kyoto where many thatched private houses still exist.
Kitamura was originally a village that was formed from the end of the Edo period to the beginning of the Meiji period. In 1993, the northern district, where many traditional thatched-roof buildings gather, was selected as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.
