Shotoen Garden is a garden built at the end of the Edo period in a town that flourished as a key point of maritime traffic on the Seto Inland Sea on Shimokamagari Island.
This stroll-style garden features a pond and pine trees, with the rapid tides of the Sannose Strait as its backdrop.

It features a majestic landscape that incorporates the beauty of the Seto Inland Sea's many islands, and is designed to skillfully utilize the natural terrain, such as a pond that changes its appearance depending on the tide. The garden features dry landscape gardens, waterfalls, bridges, and other features, allowing you to enjoy the traditional beauty of Japanese gardens to your heart's content.

Shotoen's charm is not just its size and beautiful shape. The grounds are dotted with the "rest area" where Emperor Meiji is said to have rested, and buildings of historical value, which recall the prosperity of the time. Flowers of the four seasons decorate the garden, with cherry blossoms in spring and beautiful autumn leaves in autumn, showing different expressions depending on the time of year you visit.

As you walk along the paths in the garden, you will see one stunning view after another, where the calm waters and islands of the Seto Inland Sea and the well-maintained gardens blend beautifully together.
