Omoide Yokocho in Shinjuku is a nostalgic Showa-era retro drinking district located about a 3-minute walk west from the west exit of Shinjuku Station, packed with about 80 establishments, mainly motsuyaki and yakitori restaurants.
Omoide Yokocho started as a gathering of street vendors shortly after the war, and is now a food and drink district with about 80 stores, including those serving grilled offal, yakitori, and ramen. The maze-like layout of the narrow alleys realistically recreates the food stall culture of the Showa era.
It is also a popular spot for foreign tourists, with photogenic lanterns that resemble streetcars and handwritten menu signs left on the walls. There are large commercial facilities such as Kabukicho and Keio Department Store in the surrounding area, making it the perfect starting point for a bar hopping trip.
