Mino Udatsu no Udatsu Townscape is a townscape in Mino City, Gifu Prefecture, lined with merchant houses from the Edo period. It has been selected as a nationally important preservation district for groups of traditional buildings, and still conveys the atmosphere of a town that flourished as a production center for Mino washi paper.
The townscape is lined with merchant houses built from the Edo period to the Meiji period, and is characterized by fire walls called udatsu made from Mino washi paper. Udatsu are walls raised at both ends of the roof, which served to prevent the spread of fire in the event of a fire.
