The Tomioka Silk Mill, located in Tomioka City, Gunma Prefecture, is Japan's first government-run model silk mill registered as a World Heritage Site.
Tomioka Silk Mill was built using French technology and was one of the largest silk mills in the world at the time. Inside the factory, there are machines for extracting raw silk from cocoons, and the scale and sophistication of these machines is impressive.
