Shirane is an active volcano with an altitude of 2,160m, and the crater is a beautiful crater lake.
There is a ``Shirane Volcano Ropeway'' on the Aobayama slopes of Kusatsu Kokusai Ski Resort.

Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane is made up of two mountains: Mt. Shirane and Mt. Moto-Shirane.

Mt. Shirane is characterized by three crater lakes: Yugama, Mizukama, and Higama.

Mt. Motoshirane is the source of Kusatsu Onsen, where sulfur fumes and hot springs gush out.

Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane is counted as one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains and is a popular spot for mountain climbing and hiking.
