New Yashima Aquarium is scheduled for renovation in spring 2027! Currently, New Yashima Aquarium is closed.
The New Yashima Aquarium on Mount Yashima has been closed for renovations since 2025. Currently, the temporary "Ichiba Aquarium" allows you to encounter penguins and otters up close, making it ideal for families or sightseeing on rainy days.
New Yashima Aquarium will undergo major renovations starting April 7, 2025, with a planned reopening in spring 2027. During the closure, the "Market Aquarium" will be set up in the former fruit and vegetable building of the Takamatsu Central Wholesale Market, operating temporarily in the city center within walking distance of the station. Although temporary, the aquarium will exhibit over 1,000 animals from 100 species in 30 tanks across approximately 1,200 square meters. The short distance between the walkways and the tanks allows visitors to enjoy the penguins and Asian small-clawed otters at eye-to-eye distance, a major attraction. After reopening, a revamped concept for the large circular tank on Mt. Yashima is also planned, attracting anticipation from both building and animal lovers.
