Its particular strengths are in crafts such as ceramics, dyeing and weaving, and metalwork, as well as printmaking, and it also has a strong collection of artists with ties to Kyoto. Enjoy the permanent Collection Gallery and seasonal special exhibitions, and on Fridays, the museum is open late during special exhibitions, allowing you to appreciate the art at your leisure.

The interior features an open, spacious design with an atrium and glass walls. Along the canal, you'll find the glass-walled Café de 505 and the museum shop, Art Plus. These two establishments offer exhibition catalogs, original merchandise, and sweets and snacks perfect for a break. No tickets are required for entry.

The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, is a beautiful modernist building with a grid-like exterior. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Fumihiko Maki, its elegant appearance upon completion in 1986 is a mecca for architecture enthusiasts.
