A children's cultural facility designed by Tadao Ando. A new attraction in Nakanoshima where you can enjoy picture books, architecture, and art strolls all at once. Reservations are required for leisurely reading, and you can also enjoy reading outside in the riverside rose garden.
Nakanoshima Children's Book Forest stands in a green space nestled between the Dojima River and the Tosabori River at the eastern edge of Nakanoshima Park. Designed by Tadao Ando Architect & Associates, the building itself is a unique public facility donated to the city of Osaka. The atrium, with its bridges and staircases and wall-to-wall bookshelves, creates a three-dimensional space, shifting your gaze as you walk through it, creating a "mini-labyrinth." A blue apple at the entrance, an object themed on "eternal youth," welcomes visitors.

While primarily aimed at infants to junior high school students (and their parents), the selection and exhibits are appealing enough for adults to enjoy as well. The diverse collection of books arranged by theme, along with the benches and steps scattered throughout the library, encourage the experience of "reading wherever you like." It's an open space where children can enjoy reading freely.

If you find a book you like inside the library, you can "read it outside." Each person is allowed to take one book outside within Nakanoshima Park, so you can enjoy a reading picnic in the rose garden or on the riverside terrace.

Advance reservations are required to enter the museum. If there are spaces available on the day, you can enter by waiting for a set time.

Cutely designed original goods are available for purchase at the Book Forest Shop.
