This is the townscape from the mid-Edo period to the early Showa period, when it prospered as a castle town of Wakishiro and developed as a distribution center for indigo.

It is designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.

The roadside station "Ai Land Udatsu" is adjacent.
