Located in the center of Shodoshima Island, Kagawa Prefecture, Kankakei is a majestic valley formed by volcanic activity about 13 million years ago and erosion over many years. With a series of strange rocks and cliffs, its unique scenery is counted among the three most beautiful valleys in Japan. In particular, it attracts many tourists throughout the year because it shows different expressions with each season, such as the vivid green of the new green season, the fiery red of the autumn leaves, and the snowy scenery in winter.

To enjoy the charm of Kankakei to the fullest, we recommend using the ropeway. On the about 5-minute aerial walk from Kountei Station at the foot of the mountain to the summit station, you can see the magnificent valley below and the beauty of the Seto Inland Sea islands beyond. It is known as the only ropeway in Japan where you can see the sky, sea, and valley at once, and the spectacular view is impressive. At the top of the mountain, there is an observation deck and a shop, and you can enjoy the view at your leisure.

There are also three types of hiking trails, so you can enjoy the nature of the valley on your own two feet. It's a popular spot for outdoor enthusiasts, as you can refresh both body and mind while experiencing the grandeur of nature.
It takes about an hour each way, so a good option is to take the ropeway to the top and hike down.
