Kongobu-ji Temple, located in Koya-cho, Ito-gun, Wakayama Prefecture, is a temple that was established as the main training center of Shingon Buddhism on Mount Koya, a land given to Kobo Daishi Kukai by Emperor Saga. Currently, the entire Mount Koya is included in the Kongobu-ji Temple grounds, and its central palace, the "Main Hall," is a highly prestigious building that serves as the head temple of temples throughout the country. Inside the building, there is a large hall decorated with sliding door paintings by Kano Tan'yu and others, and the "Banryutei," one of the largest dry landscape gardens in Japan, and its vastness and beauty are overwhelming.

Mount Koya is registered as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range," and is visited by many pilgrims and tourists throughout the year. In addition to Kongobu-ji Temple, there are many other attractions such as Okunoin Temple, where Kobo Daishi's tomb is located, and Danjo Garan, the main training center of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism. The autumn leaves are particularly beautiful, and the entire Mount Koya is dyed red and yellow, attracting many people.

There is a free parking lot nearby. However, during the tourist season, such as the autumn leaves, it often fills up early.
