Mount Koya is registered as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range," and is visited by many pilgrims and tourists throughout the year. In addition to Kongobu-ji Temple, there are many other attractions such as Okunoin Temple, where Kobo Daishi's tomb is located, and Danjo Garan, the main training center of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism. The autumn leaves are particularly beautiful, and the entire Mount Koya is dyed red and yellow, attracting many people.
Danjo Garan, a training center of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism, is located on the west side of Kongobu-ji Temple.
There is a free parking lot nearby. However, during the tourist season, such as the autumn leaves, it often fills up early.
Trivia: Kongobu-ji Temple's "Banryutei" is one of the largest rock gardens in Japan, boasting an area of 2,340 square meters, and is said to represent two dragons facing each other.
