Okusayama Observatory on Lake Hamana in Shizuoka Prefecture is accessible by the only ropeway that crosses the lake in Japan. You can enjoy a 360-degree view and music boxes.
Mount Okusa, located on the north shore of Lake Hamana in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is a scenic spot where you can get a panoramic view of the entire lake. The summit can be accessed by the Kanzanji Ropeway. This ropeway is the only gondola in Japan that crosses the lake, and you can enjoy the majestic view of Lake Hamana spreading out below you from the air. The approximately 4-minute aerial stroll will give you a feeling of floating as if you are flying above the lake, which will liven up your travel mood.

From the Okusayama Observatory at the top of Mount Okusa, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view. Below you can see the sparkling Lake Hamana, the Pacific Ocean in the distance, and even Mount Fuji on a clear day. Adjacent to the observatory is the Lake Hamana Music Box Museum, where you can enjoy the beautiful sounds of precious antique music boxes from the 19th century. At 00 minutes every hour, an automatic carillon (a musical instrument made up of multiple bells) installed on the observation deck starts playing, providing soothing sounds along with the scenery.

The ropeway station is located right next to Lake Hamana Palpal (amusement park), so it is also recommended for sightseeing with the family. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and the sound of the historic music box, and create special memories at Lake Hamana.

[Trivia]
The Kanzanji Ropeway is 723m long. It is the only ropeway in Japan that crosses the lake. At the observation deck of Okusayama, there is a bell called a carillon with a beautiful sound that plays automatically every hour on the hour.

[Hidden Spot Information]
After getting off the ropeway from the Okusayama Observatory, you will find Lake Hamana Kanzanji Onsen Town. There are day spa facilities, foot baths, souvenir shops, and more, so it is recommended to relax in the hot springs after enjoying the ropeway and observation deck. Also, if you go down a little side street from Tateyamadera Monzen-dori, you will find a red railing bridge called "Shibuki Bridge", which is a popular photo spot with a beautiful contrast between the sky and the lake.
