Toyokawa Inari is a Soto Zen temple that is counted among the three major Inari shrines in Japan. It is beloved as the god of prosperity in business, and the Reikozuka mound, lined with many stone fox statues, is a spectacular sight.
Located in Toyokawa City, Aichi Prefecture, Toyokawa Inari is a Soto Zen temple, officially named "Enpukuzan Toyokawakaku Myogonji." While "Inari" generally refers to a shrine, Toyokawa Inari is a temple, and the deity worshipped is "Toyokawa Dakinishinten," a deity riding a white fox and carrying ears of rice. The common name "Toyokawa Inari" spread because this deity is associated with ears of rice and foxes. It is said to bring benefits such as prosperity in business, safety in the home, and protection from evil, and is crowded with many worshippers throughout the year.

The most eye-catching feature in the temple grounds is the "Reikozuka," where stone statues of foxes of various sizes are dedicated. The sight of the stone statues of foxes lined up in a row, donated by believers whose wishes have been granted, is mysterious and overwhelming. In addition to the main hall, the grounds also contain the Daikokudo Hall, a bell tower, and a historic temple town. In the temple town, there are many shops selling local delicacies and souvenirs, including Toyokawa Inari Sushi, so you can enjoy eating your way around while visiting the temple.

The shrine was founded in 1441 and is said to have attracted the faith of many historical figures, including Imagawa Yoshimoto.

The main hall is a gorgeous building made entirely of zelkova wood.

Incidentally, there are many names for the three major Inari shrines, except for Fushimi, but Toyokawa Inari seems to be the one that has the most support.

In addition, the classic Toyokawa Inari Sushi crab sandwiched between fried tofu has recently become popular as the "Okitsune Burger."
