Awaga Shrine is one of the historical shrines in Tajima Province, along with Izushi Shrine.

The main deities enshrined here are Amemisari no Mikoto, Hikoimasu no Ou, and Hikohohode no Mikoto. Amami Sari no Mikoto is said to be the god who ruled Tajima Province. Hikozuo is considered to be the consort goddess of the god who ruled Tajima Province. Hikohohotemi no Mikoto is believed to be the son of the god who ruled Tajima Province.

Awaga Shrine has long been revered as the first shrine of Tajima Province. It is also believed to be the god of bountiful harvest, and many farmers come to worship.
