This castle was built in the early Edo period by Nagamasa Kuroda, who achieved great success in the Battle of Sekigahara.
There is a history of changing the name of the place from Fukuoka, Bizen Province (present-day Okayama Prefecture) to "Fukuoka", which was a place associated with the Kuroda family.

Fukuoka Castle was built as a flat mountain castle, and was a solid castle that used many stone walls.
There is a strong theory that Fukuoka Castle avoided Ieyasu's restriction by building only the tower base without building a castle tower, but there seems to be a theory that there was a castle tower.
