Tanzan Shrine is a shrine located deep in the mountainous area of Tonomine, Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture.
Tanzan Shrine is known as a shrine dedicated to Fujiwara no Kamatari. Fujiwara no Kamatari was a politician in the Asuka period and a central figure in the Taika Reforms. In the first year of Taika (645), Prince Naka no Oe and Prince Fujiwara no Kamatari are said to have negotiated national reform at Tomumine.

It is a creation with a distinctive atmosphere such as the thirteen-storied pagoda and the main hall.
The main hall of Tanzan Shrine was rebuilt in the Muromachi period, and is the only extant wooden thirteen-storied pagoda in Japan. In addition, behind the main hall, there is the ``Tanzanzuka'', which is said to be the grave of Fujiwara no Kamatari.

Mt. Yoshino is about 30 minutes south by car.
