The landscape of red bricks and nameko wall remains. There are 7 sake breweries in the area.
Saijo Sake Brewery Street is located in Saijo, Higashihiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and has long been known as the "sake capital" as a region where sake brewing has flourished.

During the Edo period, Saijo flourished as a stopover point on land routes, and thanks to its climate and groundwater suitable for sake brewing, it became a major sake-brewing region.

Even now, seven sake breweries, Kamoizumi Sake Brewery, Kamozuru Sake Brewery, Kirei Sake Brewery, Saijo Tsuru Brewery, Sanyo Tsuru Sake Brewery, Hakubotan Sake Brewery, and Fukubijin Sake Brewery, continue to brew sake using traditional techniques. At each brewery, you can sample sake (some charges may apply) and buy limited edition sake, so you can have fun finding your favorite one. Some breweries can also be toured, where you can learn about the process and tools used in sake brewing (advance reservations may be required).

The street is filled with a retro atmosphere, with red brick chimneys and namako walls. There are also many cafes and restaurants that have been renovated from sake breweries, where you can enjoy sweets and dishes made with sake and sake lees.

Every October, the Saijo Sake Brewery Street hosts a "Sake Festival," attracting many sake fans from all over Japan.

[Trivia]
Saijo is counted among Japan's three greatest sake-brewing regions, along with Fushimi (Kyoto) and Nada (Hyogo). In particular, the "brewing water" that springs from underground is soft water that is ideal for sake brewing, and this is what supports the mellow flavor of Saijo's sake. Each sake brewery has its own "famous water," which gives the sake its unique character.
Each brewery has installed a well for brewing water on the street and makes it available for tasting.
