Goshoji Temple, the 78th temple among the 88 Sacred Sites of Shikoku, is a temple located in Utazu Town, Kagawa Prefecture. The principal image is Amida Nyorai, which belongs to both Shingon and Jishu sects.
Goshoji Temple is said to have been founded in the 2nd year of Jinki (725) during the Nara period. The founder was Gyoki Bodhisattva, and at that time it was called ``Bukkozan Dojoji''.

When Kobo Daishi visited this temple in 815, he realized that it was a place connected to Buddhism, and carved a statue of himself and made a vow to ward off evil spirits. For this reason, Gosho-ji Temple is widely worshiped as the ``Utazu Daishi'' to ward off evil spirits.

On the grounds of Gosho-ji Temple, there are statues of Kobo Daishi and a stone statue where Kobo Daishi is said to have trained. You can also see Seto Ohashi Bridge from the temple grounds.

Gosho-ji Temple is one of the 88 sacred sites in Shikoku that was rebuilt in a relatively recent era. However, it has a long history and tradition, and is believed by many people.
