Head to Shiramine-ji Temple, the 81st temple on the pilgrimage route. Experience the history of Emperor Sutoku and be soothed by the magnificent view of the Seto Inland Sea from Mt. Shiramine.
It is the 81st temple of the 88 Shikoku Pilgrimage.
Hakuhoji Temple is said to have been founded in 815 by Chisho Daishi, a disciple of Kobo Daishi. Since then, it has suffered repeated fires and war damage, but it is still crowded with many worshippers.

Hakuhoji Temple has many important cultural properties. In particular, the two "13-story stone pagodas" that are said to have been built in the Kamakura period have been designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan, and their presence is a must-see. In addition, many historical structures remain, such as the Imperial Gate, main hall, and Tonshoji Hall, which were rebuilt in the Edo period.

The guardian deities of all the zodiac animals are enshrined in each hall, and zodiac visits and zodiac goshuin stamps are popular.

Additionally, Sagamibo Daigongen, the guardian deity of Mt. Shiramine, is passed down as a Tengu legend and is said to bring good fortune and prosperity in business.
